A New Name Rooted in Edmonton History

Have you heard? Our café has a new name! Say hello to the Bus Barn Café, located inside the Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market.

Come Visit!

The Bus Barn Café is located inside the Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market at 10310 83 Avenue NW in Edmonton. Stop by during market hours:
  • Saturdays: 8 AM–3 PM
  • Sundays: 11 AM–3 PM
Come for the market, stay for a coffee, and discover a little piece of Edmonton history along the way.

From Streetcars to Brunch

Long before the building was filled with farmers, bakers, makers and market-goers, it played an important role in Edmonton’s transit history.
  • 1908: The building first opened as a streetcar barn, helping maintain the streetcars that connected Edmonton’s growing communities.
  • 1951: It became a trolley bus garage during Edmonton’s electric transit boom, complete with maintenance bays and cleaning stations. And here’s a fun fact: market vendors eventually set up their stalls on top of those very maintenance bays!
  • 1983: The Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market began operating outside the building, bringing local farmers and producers to the neighbourhood.
  • 1986: The building’s days as a transit facility came to an end as diesel buses took over Edmonton’s streets.
  • 1990: The market officially moved indoors, giving the historic barn a new purpose and welcoming a whole new kind of traffic through its doors.
  • Today: The buses may be gone, but the building is still buzzing. Now home to Edmonton’s first year-round indoor farmers’ market, it’s a place to shop local, connect with community and, of course, grab something delicious to eat.

A New Way to Fuel Up

The Bus Barn Café celebrates the history of our building while giving market-goers another reason to stop, stay awhile and enjoy the market.

Whether you’re grabbing a coffee before browsing the vendor stalls, taking a break with a bite to eat, or meeting a friend for a weekend catch-up, we invite you to pull up a chair and make yourself at home.

Welcome to the Bus Barn Café!
