Our Story
The Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market began in 1983 as a seasonal outdoor market in the parking lot at Gateway Boulevard and 83 Ave. Local Alberta farmers, bakers, and artisans gathered every Saturday to share their homegrown and handmade goods with the community.
As Edmontonians’ love for the market grew, so did we. In 1990, we moved indoors to the historic and iconic brick building across the street that was once the old “bus barn,” becoming Edmonton’s first year-round farmers’ market.
Expanding from our original 40 vendors to now over 140, we pride ourselves on our deep roots in the community and being an incubator for local small businesses. We continue to be the place for you to meet the people behind the foods and hand-crafted goods you enjoy, catch up with friends, and build a tradition that will carry on for decades.

Verified Local, Always
We Make It, We Bake It, We Grow It.
At OSFM, we take “locally produced” seriously. That’s why every vendor goes through a third-party verification process. Someone visits their workspace—whether it’s a farm, bakery, or studio—to ensure they’re the real deal. No imports, no resold products, no mass produced goods.
Vendors undergo an extensive interview about their production process and any materials sourcing to make sure they truly create what they sell. This helps us protect the integrity of our market and ensures that every item you buy is genuinely local and lovingly made.
It’s how we keep things honest—and keep your market experience fresh, trustworthy, and one-of-a-kind.
We’re more than just a place to shop—we’re a vibrant, community-first hub that supports local entrepreneurs, growers, and makers. Our mission is to create a welcoming space where small businesses can thrive, and Edmontonians can connect with the people behind the products they love.
We believe in creativity, innovation, and keeping things fresh—whether that’s a new niche product or a bold business idea. Every vendor you meet here makes, bakes, or grows what they sell, and we’re proud to help those businesses grow roots and flourish.
It’s all part of our vision to be Edmonton’s go-to destination for quality, local, and sustainable shopping—week after week, year after year.
Why We Do What We Do
Deeply Rooted in the Community.
Alberta Approved Farmers’ Market
That Sunny Girl Farmer’s Market logo? It may look a bit understated, but it’s actually kind of a big deal!
As an Alberta-approved farmers’ Market, we’re proud members of the Alberta Farmers’ Market Association (AFMA), a group that’s all about keeping markets filled with local and authentic vendors selling local products and full of heart.
Being Alberta-approved means we follow strict guidelines, support local growers and makers, and stay rooted in quality, education, and community. We guarantee that when you shop at the Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market, you’re supporting real Alberta businesses whenever possible and taking home products that are truly made, baked, or grown nearby.

We work hard to promote hundreds of Alberta small businesses, the local community, and Edmonton tourism. Support from sponsors is fundamental to our mission to be a place to go each week for cultural experiences, connections to the neighbourhood, and to support local.
Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market Non-Profit Society
We’re a non-profit society and operate exclusively for the benefit of our local community.
