Stocks Berry Farms
Stocks Berry Farms was started in the early 1980’s as a small greenhouse and raspberry farm by Wes and Elsie Stocks. It grew over the years and expanded into bedding plants, potted flowers, cut flowers, and vegetables. Ben Stocks, Wes and Elsie’s son, took over the business in 1993.
Ben and his wife Karen run the farm growing tulips, stocks, freesia, and snapdragons as cut flowers in the winter indoors. During the summer months, production moves outside to grow sunflowers and peonies (their specialties) along with amazing garden-fresh bouquets filled with an assortment of field cut flowers. To rotate the fields the best they add sweet corn, cucumbers and an assortment of seasonal vegetables to our offerings in the summer.
Stocks Greenhouse is entirely family run. Elsie still comes to the farmer’s market on Saturdays with her family in her signature apron. Market days are her favourite, she says, and the people that come to it! Buying local supports small farms and families that are committed to growing the finest, most fresh products available seasonally.
Stocks Berry Farms has become one of the largest year-round cut flower growers in Alberta thanks to the great people and customers of the Old Strathcona Market, and the family looks forward to seeing you this Saturday!
