First Nature Farms
First Nature Farms is considered an ecological reserve located in the Peace Country, west of Grande Prairie. Of the 3000 acres, 90% is in it's natural state and is bordered by Crown Land and the Nature Conservancy of Canada. An education centre for learning about organic farming, First Nature Farms has hosted hundreds of people from across the world. Certified organic since 1990, the farm raises chickens and turkeys in their custom-designed 4300 square foot, mobile poultry pens. Berkshire pigs are all hand fed, raised outdoors and used in rotation to naturally fertilize and till the soil. It takes 12 years before they return to the same pasture. Our pork is also featured at Whole Foods and Choices stores in Vancouver.
Galloway cattle, an ancient Scottish breed are famed for finishing on grass and ours are grass fed throughout their lives. First Nature Farms has also raised Plains bison since 1992. Aside from the low environmental footprint of grass fed beef and bison, recent research is claiming it to be the healthiest meat you can eat.
A vendor at the Old Strathcona Farmers Market since 1991, First Nature Farms sells only frozen organic meat and is represented weekly at the south end of Row 8. If you're lucky you might even find eggs.
