Tulip Farm Red Deer
The Tulip farm, the home of the Theelen Family, is located just east of Red Deer, and unique in Alberta.
The farm is built with energy efficiency in mind. 10000 watt solar panels produce electricity and feed back into the grid. All buildings are heated with hot water from our 2 wood boilers, supplied by waste wood and dead fall trees. Solar tube hot water tubes will shortly supply the house with hot water.
We grow tulips, Hyacinths, Amaryllis (all hydroponic), in the middle of the winter and fresh greens and cuttings. A stand of more than 20000 hand planted evergreens is growing for future generations. 400 Sheep are used to graze and fertilize around the trees.
Our amaryllis is used in Arrangements we make fresh at the market, right in front of you. Hyacinths are sold in more than 10 different varieties, as cut or on the bulbs.
The Tulips are cut 3 times a day, and picked with colour just showing. This guarantees a long vase life. Sold in bundles of 10 stem, they slowly open in your home.
The Old Strathcona Market is the only market we serve ourselves, and you can be sure, that we stand behind what we sell.
Everything we sell has “Happiness Guarantee”. See you soon.
*Temporary/Seasonal vendor. Please check our Market Map to see what vendors are at the market this week!
